Homeland Security/Counter-Terrorism investigators police suspected terrorist acts and terrorism-related offenses. The Prosecutors Office, by order of the Governor, is the hub and controller of counter-terrorism information and coordination for the county's police departments. This unit prepares for possible terrorist attacks by developing intelligence and working with the County Office of Emergency Management.
The unit assists the United States Attorney's Offices in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and the state Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. Unit investigators routinely meet with federal and state officials in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to receive information about suspected terrorism activity and share intelligence.
The unit, through the Critical Infrastructure Coordinator, assesses the vulnerability and security of sites in the county identified as critical infrastructure by the state or county.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Homeland Security/Counter-Terrorism Unit is tasked with detecting criminal efforts to create widespread fear or terror. In an emergency, the office must coordinate and plan emergency response preparation for the municipalities and the county, as well as establish the countys counter-terrorism training. The unit is the liaison between municipal, state and federal agencies to ensure a coordinated response for assignments tasked by the U.S. Attorneys Offices Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council.
The unit's assistant prosecutor gives legal advice and prepares applications for search and data warrants when needed.
This unit responds to investigative requests made by the FBIs Joint Terrorism Task Force. Unit members also serve as the County Coordinator to the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
